Summer break often comes with the challenge of keeping young minds active and engaged. This year, Luthercare for Kids decided to tackle that challenge head-on! Thanks to incredible support from the United Way of Lebanon County, Luthercare for Kids was able to make a real difference in Lebanon County by providing families with something special: family engagement kits.
Each kit included age-appropriate educational materials, information on local programs, and a family-friendly dinner recipe and all the ingredients to make it. In total, Luthercare for Kids distributed more than 140 engagement kits in late-May to help support families served by our Systems Aligned in Learning Program (SAIL) in Lebanon County.
The SAIL program pairs a mentor with in-home childcare providers to be sure they are equipped with the tools they need to provide excellence in childcare. The mentor offers guidance, educational assistance, and resources at no cost to the providers, thanks to the generous grant support from organization such as the United Way of Lebanon County, the UPMC Pinnacle Foundation, the Steinman Foundation, and High Foundation.
All of the items in the family engagement kits were funded by the United Way of Lebanon County and included age-specific early learning items and activities to keep the children engaged and learning while school is not in session during summer break. Each family also received a recipe for chicken noodle casserole and all the ingredients to make the dish. After receiving the kits, the providers were excited to send them home with the children’s families and share more about available resources in Lebanon County.
Here’s to starting the summer off right with learning, laughter, and endless possibilities! To learn more about SAIL and educational programs and resources in Lebanon County, please reach out to SAIL Mentor Maria Sanchez by e-mail at msanchez@luthercare.org.
